Benefits of Inspiratory Muscle Training in COPD Patients
نویسنده
چکیده
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a primary lung disease .The hyperinflation induces increased strain on the respiratory muscles, which are forced to work in a limited range of movement with negative pressure/effort relationship, leading to fatigue and increased dyspnoea. So purpose of this study is to assess the effect of Inspiratory Muscle Training on PImax and 6 Minute Walk Distance (6MWD).Objective: To assess the effectiveness of inspiratory muscle training on inspiratory muscle performance (PImax) & Exercise capacity in COPD. Materials and Methods: An Interventional study was conducted on 40 COPD patients having mild to moderate severity, to assess the pre and post differences in PImax, and 6MWD by applying inspiratory muscle training. Result: Statistical analysis showed that there is significant improvement in all outcomes after application of inspiratory muscle training. Conclusion: It can be concluded from the present study that Inspiratory Muscle Training has significant effect on PImax and 6MWD in COPD patients.

Comparing the Effect of Resistive Inspiratory Muscle Training and Incentive Spirometry on Respiratory Pattern of COPD patients
Background: Resistive Inspiratory Muscle Training (RIMT) is a well-known technique for rehabilitation of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Incentive spirometry is another technique with potential viability for this application, but there is limited evidence in support of its efficacy in the rehabilitation of COPD patients. Aim: The objective of this study was to compar...
متن کاملMaintenance of inspiratory muscle training in COPD patients: one year follow-up.
In most chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, dyspnoea and functional exercise capacity may improve as a result of inspiratory muscle training (IMT). However, the long-term benefits of IMT have been investigated to a much lesser extent. The present study investigated the short-term and long-term benefits of IMT on inspiratory muscle performance (strength and endurance), exercis...

Background and Objectives: This review aims to explore the use of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in patients with mechanical ventilation (MV). The topics were related to its effect on the duration of MV or weaning, respiratory symptoms or lung function, inspiratory muscle strength (IMS) or endurance, functional ability, and quality of life (QoL). Methods: Articles published in the last 10 ...
متن کاملBenefits of short inspiratory muscle training on exercise capacity, dyspnea, and inspiratory fraction in COPD patients
Abstract: Static lung hyperinflation has important clinical consequences in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Given that most of these patients have respiratory and peripheral muscle weakness, dyspnea and functional exercise capacity may improve as a result of inspiratory muscle training (IMT). The present study is designed to investigate the benefits of a short outpat...
متن کاملTransdiaphragmatic pressure and neural respiratory drive measured during inspiratory muscle training in stable patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
PURPOSE Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) is a rehabilitation therapy for stable patients with COPD. However, its therapeutic effect remains undefined due to the unclear nature of diaphragmatic mobilization during IMT. Diaphragmatic mobilization, represented by transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi), and neural respiratory drive, expressed as the corrected root mean square (RMS) of the diaphragmatic...
